Recycling a Dell

Postby Jimbo » 23 Feb 2013, 23:38

I have a used Dell in my closet I'd like to give to my school. The problem is it is riddled with viruses and odd bits of nasty things I'd rather not have any second owners to see or deal with. Is there a way to just reset the thing back to nothing as if new? I don't know where the original discs are. Thanks in advance.

Sometimes the necessary files are on a partition on the disk.

Boot it up and see if there's something like a Dell System Recovery option or some other Dell app which should take it back to its initial setting. You will more than likely need the Windows serial number which should be on a sticker on the back. If it isn't (or it's illegible) Google online to find out where you can find it on your computer.

It should tell you whether or not you need any additional disks.
