PC running a bit slow..

Postby Rory Bellows » 07 Oct 2012, 19:43

Nothing dramatic, but I have noticed it is a bit sluggish these days, especially just after boot up

Seem to have enough memory and HDD space

Any tips ?

It's a Dell (about 3 to 4 years old....)

Cheers

There are a couple of things you could try.

I have a 5 year old Dell that came with McAfee. I uninstalled it straight away - it's a sod for hogging resources at start up and whilst it's running. Replace it with AVG or Avira.

Try defragmenting the hard drive - that might help a bit.

Have you had a look at which programs are being kicked off at Start Up? There may be a few things in there that are running in the background that you really don't need.

Those are the obvious candidates...
