I bought a cheap second-hand pc for my son to use. I'm getting a message bottom right 'No audio device is installed' and the icon of a speaker with a red cross.
I have downloaded the appropriate driver from Dell and have connected the speakers. To a green socket. But nothing. PC volume is not muted or scaled back. Speakers do work elsewhere. I have no manual so I'm not certain that the speakers socket is correct.
When I use headphones I get nothing either.
Any ideas?

Re: No Sound from PC
It looks like you've either installed the wrong driver, or the driver you have installed requires some other component to be in place before it will work, such as the latest service pack or a later driver.
Windows Update may also be able to install the relevant driver for you.

Re: No Sound from PC
Or perhaps there is no sound card installed (would be strange, but one never knows)
And as it say "no device installed" I guess thats the case

I had the same issue and checked via control panel/Sound devices and noticed mute was checked. Your problem may be more complex but can't hurt to eliminate the obvious.
