Re: Prog Cup Final: The Sorcerer Vs. The Apprentice.
B has a very strong first 10 and finishes with a strong 5 (and has superior Genesis and Camel picks) but despite some very robust songs in the middle choices, which I would certainly have voted for in the other cup, I have a hard time considering many of them as prog.
For all round proggy robustness I have to go for A though I reckon Inca Roads would have been a more suitable choice from Zappa's One Size Fits All and would have been on my own list if I'd gone further.

I was having some tech issues last nite, and yet again today. Guess I'll have to forego voting.

It would be very bad form to win your own competition anyway and solarskope would have cried "fix"! I'm sure eyebrows were raised when I won the BCB World Cup competition I organised with a run of predictions that would have made Paul The Octopus jealous .
Thanks for organising it and congrats to carlsson, a worthy winner, even if his list lacks anything beyond 1974 .

You're absolutely, right and to be honest, I'd hoped to have been dumped out of the competition a bit earlier. Don't get me wrong, it was nice to make the final, but it wouldn't have been right to have organised the competition and then won it. And I'm really pleased for Carlsson, because he deserves it.

Cheers, I've enjoyed it as well. I've been chatting to Carlsson through pm about doing some other things throughout the year, such as a Prog Premier League and a Concept Album Tournament. Something like that though would require asking for a separate Prog Corner forum. I don't know how JQW would feel about that and I wonder if enough people would want that? What do you think?
Edit: Please talk about it in Carlsson's new Post Mortems and planning for next year thread:

Thank you Carol.
You voted against me in every round except the final...
Was it something I said?

Carlsson wins the Prog Cup?
How did that happen?
Not suggesting any impropriety, just noting that it's very fitting.
Congratulations, my esteemed friend!

In the Court of the Carlsson King
I love it!
Nice touch with "Rainmaker" - dunno if you recall but I believe it was the first song I posted on the Favourite Prog Song thread.
Very well-played, my friend.

I think you'll find Julia by Pavlov's Dog dates from 1976.
Having created the Broad Church, it is noticeable that Carlsson has not included anything from outside the rigid prog/progressive canon. I find this disappointing.
A robust performance and good choices, but for me not a fully satisfying list.
Many thanks to Roky for ruuning the show!

Forget the lists!
Once C broke his round duck the result was never much in question.
I reckon if he ever gets past the first round in the BCB Cup he'll win that as well.
Well done C!

So will it be the Prog or Progressive Cup in 2012...?
