Re: Ray's Photos
Small change of plan today. The usual two parts, but the same subject, in August: we'd seen the house, which was way too small, and so we went out for a drive east of the Malverns, and checked out a country church at a speck of a village called Besford. I've always had, well, not exactly a passion, but certainly a strong interest in ecclesiastical history and architecture, someone who knows his piscinas from his sedilias. I'm full of surprises, me. This one was a small gem, set in the grounds of an equally gemmy and diminutive manner house (later date, Georgian maybe) and the interior was well worth the 300m walk up a driveway to get the key – a piece of mediaeval iron about a foot long.

Re: Ray's Photos
Part Two
Grisaille
Love this simple style of green and clear glass panes, and the soft light it sheds
Name of the Rose
Restored painting of the 15th-century rood loft carvings. Virtually all the arts and decorative crafts surviving from pre-Hanoverian England is to be found in Churches rather than stately home or museums
Memorial Triptych
Here's a case in point, a painting on boards from the 16th or 17th century (can't remember). It's battered, and getting a decent picture of the whole thing proved beyond me, but there are two fine details below
The Hobbit's Entrance
Normal format resumes tomorrow (or maybe Monday)

From the church ^, we drove to Pershore:
Tree Art
I've seen dead trees hewn into simple shapes before, but there's some serious carving going on here. Two details below:
Remnant
The tower and south transept are all that's left of Pershore Abbey, made over as a parish church after the Dissolution

Re: Ray's Photos
Part Two picks up in Ledbury, where we left off yesterday, and ends with a home invasion
Cobbles
Rose Garden
Stopped in here for a smoke; on the way out, met a man wearing a Planet Gong T-shirt and engaged him in conversation.
Which was nice
Wellworth It!
pound store appropriates former Woolworth's premises and brand styling in Ledbury's main drag
Encore
Not as spectacular as the day before, but another nifty sunset brings the trip to a close
Here be Dragons
Came downstairs the morning after we got home to find this slow worm lurking on the weather report section of the Guardian
Tomorrow is the Beloved's birthday, and there's house-hunting and a trip to London in the offing, so I'm not sure when I'll be back to this

Re: Ray's Photos
Just slipping one in here (oo-er, missus) before heading off to That London tomorrow - probably won't post again until Monday. Part One, from the middle of August, features death, floral glory and noses, while Part Two, from the slide scan archives, features shots from, appropriately enough, That London, back when I lived in it in the 1980s.

Re: Ray's Photos
As usual after a break – most refreshing, thanks – I'm back with a bumper offering, in three parts.
Part one is from August this year and features the usual suspects, Part two is from the slides archive, and part three from the prints archive. Here we go...
Boots and Bozos
Featuring Himself with Holly and Willow
The rest from a swift visit to the nearby village of Thorverton
Old School
Fellow Traveller
Someone who has similar taste in flowers and informality to mine
Walk-through Refreshment
While I take the footbridge, Himself takes the ford
Smile for the Camera
Georgian Symmetry
