Re: Behold The Black Palace
Hello again. Just a note to say that I think some of you might enjoy our latest release:
English Bore - 'Dataphile'
http://blackpalace.co.uk/album/kpl6cd-dataphile
Here's the press blurb:
This latest full length offering from Black Palace co-founder English Bore is dedicated to the study and development of the emerging art of ‘data bending', wherein commonplace file formats (in this case .bpm and .psd image files) are manipulated and recoded to provide audio information.
Based around original images supplied by three photographers, ‘Dataphile’ is alive with glitching, hacked ripples, distant clicks and stuttering pulses and drones. Crumbling, distorted motifs give way to frequencies which stretch the limits of human hearing (and the reproductive capabilities of most home listening equipment), whilst the processing involved is limited primarily to the generation of the audio file itself, with post production amounting only to some minor spatialisation adjustments. Thus the listener is left with nine clean, pristine studies in data bending.
Inspired by an invitation to bring these techniques to the opening of an exhibition of the work of JMW Turner at the Turner Contemporary in Margate in early 2012, ‘Dataphile’ is the fifth album offering from English Bore, who’s other work includes live performances based around circuit bent walkmen and cassette loops, noise and drone releases, scores for the screen, video work and finely tuned electronica.
In the words of David Toop ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Toop ) this album is "Exceptional". So that's good.
PS - If you like 'Dataphile', you might well enjoy this: http://blackpalace.co.uk/album/kplcdl1- ... ops-140112

Re: Behold The Black Palace
Mmmmmm, more Black Palace news...
A new DL only release from Elizabeth Roach, who we love. Ten minutes of brooding, aquatic moodswings:
http://blackpalace.co.uk/track/kplcdl8-drown
And a forthcoming LP (on white wax, no less), featuring Morgan Fisher, Doll Brains, Geese, Hand of Stabs and more due in August.
Plenty more releases in the pipeline too - watch this space. Or don't. It's your life. X

Re: Behold The Black Palace
Howdy,
In anticipation of our first vinyl release next month ('KPLC5', no less - 200 x white vinyl LP) we have a single, one off, 'White' edition copy we'd like to give away, consisting of a white label copy of the LP in a stickered, all white gatefold sleeve, two all white postcards and a 48pp all white softbacked book, hand numbered 1/1. Plus maybe some other stuff we find between now and then.
The tracklist is as follows:
1: Geese - Spool (Live)
2: JNewman - Sundown
3: Mahler Haze - Painted Rust
4: Morgan Fisher - SixLiveMinutes
5: JNewman - Extreme Value Theory
6: Hand Of Stabs - Smyth's Megalith
7: Geese - Andrew Parsnip (Live)
8: Doll Brains - 11 R>E>M> Smashers
To win, please email us at blckplc AT gmail.com telling us your guess in minutes and seconds at the total length of everything released (or scheduled) thus far on Black Palace, including this LP and the forthcoming Thunder Karlson cassette. Thats eight titles in all, KPLCDL1 - KPLCDL8 and everything in between.
The website will help (http://blackpalace.co.uk) but it'll only take you so far. The closest entry by 10am on Monday 30th July wins the LP. And it's a cracker.
Enjoy

Hello again!
The LP is now shipping in all it's lovely white vinylness (resplendent with DL code):
http://blackpalace.bandcamp.com/album/kplc5
It's a thing of beauty, even if I do say so myself.
Oh, and if you're in London town tomorrow night, Geese are supporting Adem, which has the makings of a classic.

Looks like an intriguing enterprise.
