I've loved "Expressway To Your Heart" by The Soul Survivors since I was four, but as I was singing along to it the other day it occurred to me for the first time that the lyric There's too many / Ahead of me / They're all tryin' / To get in front of me doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

This afternoon's revelation: Rotary Connection were the American Os Mutantes.

(Not as good, mind you.)

I took it to mean Otis' voice, but with new back-up.

Either way, I'd rather not hear it.

I watched Bruce Springsteen: In His Words last night, and while I'm a late comer to Springsteen (which I regret), his up bringing is not what I thought it would be. With his songs and lyrics about working class folk, and the mental struggles for men in some songs, I thought he would be personally experienced. Turns out, he never worked a day in in life and he was the spoilt kid in the family. I don't know, It's just not what I thought his upbringing would be when you listen to some of his lyrics. It doesn't take away from his songs, just a bit of a surprise.

On my walk to work this morning I had 'Ain't No Sunshine' going through my head, but the chorus was from 'On The Beach'. It totally worked in my head...

More Watt:

The great bassist and spieler Mike Watt joins me this time around to discuss the impact that "Tyranny & Mutation," the 1973 album by Blue Oyster Cult, had on his long career in rock and punk.

They certainly had a lot of interesting production values. I ended up buying their first one after reading something about them.
I haven't ventured any further mind you but I do play the one from time to time.
