Re Pixies. Did you ever dip your toe into the water with the later albums after they initially broke up, then reformed etc ?

Broad church

What a great album

What a great band

Was playing it in the car just over an hour ago. Even Mrs SB likes them .... she sings along to "Monkey gone to heaven " with gusto!

Even like this one, regarded as their weakest during their halcyon days

I love all their albums Trompe has some superb tracks (Planet of Sound and Alec Eiffel come to mind) although not as strong as Doolittle et alia

Got all the Pixies albums up to Trompe plus a couple of comps - I like them well enough but in small doses. How about Queens of the Stone Age any fondness for them either of you? Saw them live and they were excellent, although not keen on the Nick Oliveri's vocal conbtributions, however Josh Homme's and Mark Lanegan's vocals were excellent.

I bought the first one after they reformed - I can't even remember the title.

Perhaps I reinvestigate....

Rated R is a fantastic rock album. Saw them recently on BBC4 Glastonbury retrospective (2011) and they were magnificent....just SO cool.

Played earlier:

This is such a superbly robust album - so much more rewarding than their debut

Often overlooked by the usual suspects (40,00 Headmen, Pearly Queen, Feelin' Alright, You Can all Join In....) from this album;

Well, as I've said before, I liked their first couple of rather more melodic albums but after that their version of heavy blues rock and all that Steve Marriot hollering and wailing just left me cold. Loved Marriot in the Small Faces - All or Nothing and Tin Soldier are absolute classic singles as far as I'm concerned but in Humble Pie they seemed to forget the tunes.I remember when they formed I was really keen for them to do well and thought the early signs were good - but then they weren't.

Recently read a book about Marriot, not a very pleasant character it appears but shouldn't speak ill of the dead.

As I said C. horses for courses.

More tunes from the peace and love psych generation. Never tire of hearing songs from these psych/love generation comps.
