Gentle Giant - Unburied Treasure

To further my quest to know progressive rock, I picked up one of the second pressings of the Unburied Treasure box from GG. Thirty discs, including their complete '70s catalog with tons of live stuff thrown in for good measure. I only knew Octopus before today, so I've got plenty of listening/learning in store. Diving into their first album now with a Steven Wilson 5.1 mix. Pretty good, and they say it gets better after this!

You bought 30 discs of a band you don’t really know?

Money to burn. Fair play!

30 discs - that is a lot of music - even for an old hand like me!

GG are such a rewarding band - they will improve with every listen.

I'm proud of you Matt!

30 discs - wow, that's a lot to get through even for a band you like! Be interesting to see how you get on with it, especially as they are not the easiest of bands to listen to by any means.

£470...!

Looks like some interesting live concerts.

I would be interested in knowing the sound quality of the aforementioned.

I am a massive GG fan but I wouldn't entertain something as large as this.

I wish, in these circumstance, that they would release the 'best' live CDs, separately, in more affordable batches

Well you know Stephen, I only buy music now to make you proud of me. lol

It was cheaper than you listed it though. Now the out-of-print Genesis 5.1 box on the other hand...

Gentle Giant Acquiring the Taste

GG's much more experimental second LP. Brilliant stuff, these guys were treading paths nobody else would dare. The whole thing is pretty good, and I'd not heard one track before this morning.

Some good stuff on this album but some pretty ropey stuff as well, worth a listen though.

Wow, very consistent! Not a weak song or even moment. Their best so far? Difficult to say as I like all three, but in terms of quality control, this one will be hard to beat.

I’m amazed at your investment Matt but pleased that it seems to be paying off. There is a definite drop off in quality around The Missing Piece and beyond but hopefully there will be enough to enjoy before then.
It was raining when we drove up the two-lane highway through the long tunnel of trees that led into the black district on the south end of St. Martinville.

I buy a lot of these boxes just because I'm a collector, Neil. It comes from my comic book days when I was a kid I guess. I like the idea of purchasing something and then having the price go up. The GG set I just got is a second printing of a box which sold out right away when the first printing came out last year. I figure this printing will sell out too. Not that I ever sell anything though, I keep it all. Don't want to be one those assholes on the internet who price gouge things for three times what they paid for it.

I figure I've only got about twenty more years or so what with the diabetes and not taking good care of myself, maybe less with this virus. Might as well enjoy my time here!

Yeah, and it's the shortest song on the LP!
