KariBow - From Here to The Impossible

German band's new album. They are actually Oliver Rusing plus a load of pretty stellar guests from bands you would know well if you'd taken note of my posts from the last few years.

The early work from a guy whose talent has been burning bright for an amazingly prolific 25 years.

A quiet understated (nearly) genius.

Been listening to a ton of PT in the wake of the new Steven Wilson-album, including the first 3 cassettes he released which sound exactly what at you expect from a budding prog bedroom nerd. It is incredible the number of classic songs he's written...Radioactive Toy, Sever, Moonloop, Up The Downstairs, Disappear, Chloroform, Nine Cats, Russia On Ice, Dark Matter, Voyage 34..

I like it very much!
It's a wee bit different, includes some vox stuff
and other contribution from people here and there on their us tour.
But on par with the album before it, me thinks...

"On board are the freely fabulous Barbara Manning in a live lecture,
Jürgen Engler (Die Krupps) in overdub
and Ysanne Spevack as a wonderful wavemaker on the viola."

Porcupine Tree - Lightbulb Sun

So much music to listen to from SW.... for some reason I've not become hugely familiar with this album but listening this morning it's right up there with the best of the PT output. Great stuff.

Played this lot amongst others this week, whilst going to, from and at work.

I love Sylvan. Often emotional German rock prog, occasionally metallic but generally melodic. Vocalist has a unique delivery, all sung in English but bloody hard to pick it up.

This was the 1st album I heard of theirs and it got me into them, but now I find it one of the weakest.

This one has some great songs, slightly more commercial than their usual output.

Image

This one is probably their highest rated but I find it's a really tough listen due to the story it tells of a father and his dead daughter.

Image

And this is their masterpiece imo - one of my all-time Top 20 albums.

Amish - s/t (1972)

Canadian hard rock/prog outfit. Kind of reminds me of Bloodrock. Pretty good, really.

Doing a repeat of an excellent February gig this weekend, this time at ULU.

The Pineapple Thief supported by Godsticks.

Highly recommended.

I remember being a little disappointed when this first came out after the magic of The Trials of Van Occupanther but it has grown on me more and more with each passing year.

Perhaps a little one-paced but a superb set of songs.

My sentiments exactly. I find it quite a sad album, actually, yet uplifting at the same time.
