Re: PROG CORNER
<——- Nice one! The Spotify version has 28 tracks and it has to be one of the best extended albums I’ve heard. Great stuff.
——x——
New album from another Dutch band hovering below the line. Starts off a bit obvious metal prog with the sort of blasting chugging guitar riff that puts me off a bit but it gets better as it goes on and when the heavy symphonic elements kick in it does appeal. (Hints of Magic Pie who I bloody love.)
Seem to remember I quite rated their last one but the search function barely works so not much point looking to see what I said back then....

Re: PROG CORNER
NP- Conny Olivetti- In Trance as Mission
Having spend several months with this album I can honestly say that this is overall Conny's finest album.
This album has many similarities with his previous output- the New Pop-sensibilities with lively sequencer-parts, the dense instrumentals like hovering clouds over a sundrenched city, all interspersed with spoken word-samples and effects. This album, number 18 (!) has a more thematical approach- opening track Infrastructure sets the tone in mentioning social media's up- and downfall (Cambridge Analytica) and it finds like-minded topics like racism, enlightenment and broken dreams (very effectively emphasized by Spindrift, with its use of the famous I Have a Dream-speech set in a funereal background with crows cawing, leaving an impression of shattered promises and false hope). These particular parts are all set against an electronic-industrial background, giving these fragmented quotes a sinister and very effective backdrop.
The absolute jewel in the crown though is Das Paradies- a track using the ineffable Klaus Kinski reading a fairytale in German, wrapped in a luscious electronic, dub-style background that makes me wish Conny had taken the whole story and soundtracked it. My new favorite track by him and the best thing I heard all year.
In Trance As Mission makes for beautiful (un)easy listening; it reads like a well-written statement, the sonic designs give the proper illuminations to the tracks and propel them with clear intent into your mind. Terrific album.

Very trippy. Excellent title track below.
I love this album. The guitarist plays at the very limit of his level of competence!

Re: PROG CORNER
Impressed with Spotify this morning.
I let it play things I might like and it came up with the following, none of which apart from Wishbone Ash (to my recent memory) I have played myself, and all excellent:
For Yasgur’s Farm - Mountain
Too Rolling Stoned - Robin Trower
Miss Evil - Frijid Pink
Waiting in The Wings - BBM
Songs of Yesterday - Free
Evening Over Rooftops - Edgar Broughton Band
You Give Me Loving - Ten Years After
Throw Down The Sword - Wishbone Ash
Made for a good and enlightening drive in to work.

There was no Led Zeppelin album in 1972. Your statement needs to be viewed with that in mind.

Excellent.
Played yesterday too.
I also played this. Also good but more measured - I love the full on rocking out organ on the 1st 2 albums.

Another super selection courtesy of the Spotify algorithm this morning none of which are on the playlists I’ve created myself over the years.
