Galasphere 347
Debut album from one of those prog super groups that pop up all the time featuring members from other bands. It does seem to be an incredibly collaborative sector. This one features members of White Willow, Anglagard, Motorpsycho, Henry Fool.
Vocals are less than stunning unfortunately but the music (symphonic prog) across 3 long tracks is really good so I’m hoping the vocals (a slightly flat Tim Bowness?) will settle with me after another couple of plays.

Manticore were a one-album Swedish band from the early 90s until this one released recently.
Both albums are decent enough but pretty standard stuff for the genre. I quite enjoyed them but wouldn’t exactly push a recommendation out there.

Sounds interesting

Re: PROG CORNER
Paul Deyes is How Far To Hitchin and this debut album titled Easy Targets was released last year. (Something I read somewhere prompted me to pop it onto my playlist but can’t remember what / where. Maybe it was on here.)
He describes it as experimental art rock with some neo prog chucked in.
Being a narrow minded sod I tend to steer away from both “experimental” and “art rock” as those descriptors usually mean the writers didn’t bother with a tune, but actually this is quite impressing me.
Everyone has influences and nothing is unique these days but although I detect some Radiohead and John Grant in there it stands up on its own merit very well.
Interesting guy to watch.
PS It petered out somewhat in the 2nd half.

Re: PROG CORNER
Explorers Club, another collaboration with an all star cast of guests assisting Magellan’s Trent Gardner whose project this was.
20 years old now - not bad, probably should be better than it is with the line up although the stellar casts rarely live up to the sum of the parts in my experience.

Rather enjoying this, though it's suffering from poor recording/production or at least the pressing I'm playing on Youtube is.

Re: PROG CORNER
The 5th album from the Steven Wilson / Aviv Geffen collaboration (although Wilson was absent for 3 and 4 both of which stank somewhat) and it’s ok. Geffen’s voice doesn’t really appeal but the Wilson led tracks sounds pretty much like a slightly paired down Porcupine Tree might have sounded if they’d been producing more commercial material at 3 or 4 mins length before they went down the heavier route of the last few albums.

Vienna Circle are 2 brothers who hail from Wiltshire and have released a couple of albums - well overdue a 3rd. Haven’t played this for a few years and I guess my tastes have evolved somewhat as it sounds better than previous plays. Most enjoyable.

Re: PROG CORNER
Such a consistently good symphonic prog band from Scotland. Much the same comments apply as above. I liked this when I first played it 5+ years ago and have followed them since. Playing this now for the 1st time in years and it sounds even better than the later albums which I have played more often.

Dutch band’s 2018 release, mixture of previously unreleased tracks, alternative versions and live.

Broad church but there is something quite progressive about her.
Released today, Anna Calvi - Hunter.
Wasn’t concentrating on it but sounded decent on 1st play.

Re: PROG CORNER
Another brand new release - such a vibrant scene at the moment, with so much good new music being made.
Impressed on 1st play. Bit of a Gavin Harrison tour de force.... his excellent drums really stood out all the way through.

Admittedly not one of Tull's best but not to be written off
