Spirit never seemed to be taken as seriously as their contemporaries which is a shame

They are definitely worth investing some time

As Follows - &cet

2017 release, 3rd album from Prog project of Ben Asaro previously known in the NYC Heavy Metal scene.

I quite enjoyed most of this, but there’s a 10 minute section of narrative and monotonous keyboard which did my head in a bit. Some stirring guitar at times.

Master’s Apprentices - A Toast To Panama Red (released in 1971)

Australian band formed in the mid 60s as The Mustangs who then went through a ridiculously turbulent few years with the name change, many line up changes, disasters and thankfully, some damn good music.

I’ve only come across them in the last few days but having played this album several, times I am entirely smitten.

Psychedelic in places, heavy in others, quite experimental and bloody excellent.

Hamadryad - The Black Hole

Canadian band - I really like their debut album from 2001 and looked forward to subsequent releases. The 2nd one was pretty decent but not as good, and the 3rd didn’t appeal - it seemed that the prog routes had been discarded with the change of vocalist.

Having seen a decent review of this recent 2017 release I decided to give it a go and and am very pleased I did as it is excellent, at least as good as the debut. The heaviest of their 4 albums, well worth a try for anyone interested in opening their minds to new music.

Oh.

Holy crap, Colin Tench RIP. :(

Outstanding guitarist and member of Corvus Stone, and (unsurprisingly) The Colin Tench Project, 2 bands who have released some of the most highly rated prog albums of the last 5 years.

An album I've grown to love over the years. Prefer it to DSotM to be honest.

How different we all are in our tastes for music - more like bottom three for me. Still remember the underwhelming feeling I had when I first bought it upon its original release. Effectively ended my interest in Pink Floyd until someone persuaded me to hear DSOTM.

I knew at the time, that for me, Dark Side just wouldn't have the longevity and staying power as some of the more 'challenging' Floyd albums - that is not to say Dark Side is main stream pop but it lacks some bite.

The albums I continue to go back to now are:

Pipers
Animals
A Saucerful
Meddle
Atom Heart

I was never a massive fan and bailed out after Wish You - I have no knowledge of the albums after that

Incidentally, I was at the John Peel Show, Paris Studios when Floyd performed Atom Heart live for the first time. It was seminally robust. I am always hoping that an official release would be forthcoming one day
