One of my favourites

You know, I have thirteen of the lad's albums and have seen him live twice but I still wouldn't call myself a proper fan....

Got quite a few of his albums as well C. but like you I wouldn't call myself a proper fan, not even really a fan at all. My good friend Tim, who died a few years ago, was a massive fan of Dylan - the words in the songs you know, and we had many conversations about his records but he just didn't do much for me at all. To be honest I've never cared about words in a song.

Well I’ve had a Riverside afternoon. I guess they are the most well known of the current excellent crop of Polish prog bands - the doom vocals are long gone (with just the occasional small burst to show he can still do it) and they are a very good band. Not so keen on Mariusz Duda’s more ambient material with Lunatic Soul although the latest had more appeal than other albums I have dipped into. Mind you, he did say he had become aware of a merging of the styles, Riverside going one way, Lunatic Soul going the other so they were becoming too close for comfort - something he would be addressing in future releases.

Great guitar, great bass, great drums, great keyboards, great vocals, great tunes....and lyrics, which, no matter how nonesensical, always seem to make perfect sense when sung by Jon. The best prog band, bar none (although "The Yes Album" and "Close to the edge" are better)

The second album by Skarbø Skulekorps, a Norwegian group - nominally jazz, but it's really all over the place, in an enjoyable way. You can stream it here.

Agree with you that CttE and TYA are better but only just. The long tracks on Fragile are stellar, as good as anything on the other two. The perceived weakness is the individual 'solo' tracks but I like them well enough to keep it interesting and Yes for me were the best prog band.

As a prog album, it ticks all the boxes. Not a wasted note. Regarding "Fragile", totally agree about the long tracks... I love "South side of the sky", but have a reallt soft spot for "Long distance runaround".

Giving this another go - pretty dreary stuff to these ears.

Now this is much better:

Broad church. Rarely, if ever, Matthew Sweet gets mentioned here, pretty solid I would say.

Anyone remember the Mission, pretty hot once upon a time - late 80s and 90s? Bought this album at the time, didn’t get a lot of play, think I’ve got ‘Children’ as well bought at some boot fair. Listenable to.

More light relief music for a Sunday afternoon.

Really like Radiohead and their record cover designs are always excellent.

Progressive at the time.

Shame they didn't stick together - Marriot at his very best.

A British jazz-rock band fronted by guitarist Gary Boyle

I have the first three (I'm not sure they made any more...)

Good stuff but not ground-breaking
