Not sure as to whether it's brilliant or awful

Not complex prog by any stretch but good tunes and a theme that recurs through the album. A really safe album that I play quite often.

One of 2017’s best albums. They are a very interesting band, stuffing so much music and so many ideas into each album. And. They are hugely prolific which is always refreshing.

Dutch band’s 2nd album released in 2017.

Started off sounding like every other metal prog album out there and the 1st track was a bit lacking in melodic vocal lines but actually it grew on me a lot as it went on.

Nobody else’s cuppa on here I’m sure so I shall be supping this one alone.

A keeper. (Unlike Liverpool’s etc. etc.)

More 1st time Dutch prog for me, and again jolly good it is too.

For comparisons I’d say Pendragon mixed with Mystery.

Ricocher - Chains

And one more Dutch album I’ve not played before.

Their 3rd album, released in 95 after a couple of death metal outings, this is fairly heavy but nowhere near that level. The now highly sought after Anneke Van Giersbergen made her debut with the band on this album - she was just 22 when it was released.

The Gathering - Mandylion

Played this yesterday - vocals are a bit off-putting on 1st play.

It’s a new release from an Italian band that’s not been heard of for a decade +.

It’s ok, I’ll leave it for a tentative follow up in the weeks ahead.

Anneke Van Giersbergen (often referred to as the 1st lady of metal) for anyone who doesn’t know her.

More from the Netherlands with one of the ground breakers’ 3rd album, released in 1973.

Earth and Fire - Atlantis

Very trippy. Excellent title track below.

Pretty good music, but the vocalist can, at times, sound like Foghorn Leghorn. In fact, the vocals remind me of Grace Slick, another vocalist who never considered light and shade with their singing

New to me, more Dutch excellence from the 70s.

Keyboard driven prog that really floats my boat. Reminds me of Triumvirat.

Loving this.
