Ignore the naysayers, another masterful album from Mr Wilson.

I like Karnataka. Safe female vocal epic neo prog songs with decent melodies and nice guitar solos in abundance.

Much the same as Mostly Autumn though not as popular / big.

The Contortionist - Clairvoyant

Had a recommendation for this new album this. Having never heard of them I did a bit of reading and was a bit concerned that their roots were in doom / djent which has close to zero appeal.

However it's a long way from that and is actually quite a decent album. Couple of plays last week and will stick with it for a bit.

First play for the full album this morning - the usual high quality prog epics with complex and somewhat mesmerising playing. Unique guitar sound to my ears.

Sweden's finest....?

Johannes Lully - Tales From Sheepfather's Grove

He's been in a couple of bands I've enjoyed so thought I'd give this a go.

Gave up after 4 tracks. Weak insipid stuff, not for me.

Big Big Train excellent at Cadogan Hall last night of course.

Some sound problems for the gallery highlighted when some old boy stood up and started shouting at the band mid song quiet section which was a tad unsettling.

The band dealt with it very sensitively and it seems sound was improved in 2nd half.

For me sound is never perfect. Drums are almost always too loud. I love the big kick but it does drown out the more subtle sounds. And when you have 8 band members plus a 5 piece brass band there are times when all you can do is sit back and wallow in the noise rather than pick out your favourite elements.

Anyway, for me, the whole concert was superb and for once I didn't have Giant Haystacks sat in front of me which was nice.

The old boy was sat right next to me and he was fully justified in getting upset because for the entire first set we couldn't hear a note, just the drums and a muffled thump which was the rest of the band. I couldn't make out a word that was sung or a word that was spoken between songs and I was only 20 feet or so from the stage. I've never experienced worse sound ar a gig.

It did improve over the course of the 2nd set and by the last couple of numbers it was more or less ok but I've already left a message on the band website to let them know how abysmal it was. If I didn't think they worked on such a shoestring budget I'd be demanding my money back. I'm glad you enjoyed it but a lot of us couldn't.

A stunning record - it often produces a tear or two to run down my old cheeks
