I enjoy both the “challenging” stuff like AHM as well as the “commercial” Floyd so long as both Roger Waters and Rick Wright are on the album.

Perversely AHM was a number 1 album while DSotM never was.

I was never a massive fan and bailed out after Wish You - I have no knowledge of the albums after that.

And yet you return to Animals!?

I hesitated when I originally typed 'Animals'... I wouldn't place it as high as the others I list but I do enjoy it still.

That said I can go months and not touch any Floyd album - I couldn't do that with some other bands like Tull or Focus or Hawkwind or Tangerine Dream

An album I've grown to love over the years. Prefer it to DSotM to be honest.

How different we all are in our tastes for music - more like bottom three for me. Still remember the underwhelming feeling I had when I first bought it upon its original release. Effectively ended my interest in Pink Floyd until someone persuaded me to hear DSOTM.

I knew at the time, that for me, Dark Side just wouldn't have the longevity and staying power as some of the more 'challenging' Floyd albums - that is not to say Dark Side is main stream pop but it lacks some bite.

The albums I continue to go back to now are:

Meddle
Atom Heart

Incidentally, I was at the John Peel Show, Paris Studios when Floyd performed Atom Heart live for the first time. It was seminally robust. I am always hoping that an official release would be forthcoming one day

Bringing things back to the current day for a moment.... I have seen good ratings for French band Siiilk and finally got around to playing their 2017 release Endless Mystery this evening on the drive home.

Bit disappointed to be honest - strong French accent on English vocals a bit distracting, rather one-paced and a bit too gentle and reflective for me. I did hear just the last 10 Minutes with earphones and there’s a chance I may have missed something by playing most of it at mid volume in car as it sounded more interesting that way... it will get another play coz of that.

German symphonic prog band’s 2011 release. Not very well received by all accounts but guess I must have read something glowing somewhere to consider it worth sticking on my playlist.

Glad I did in fact as although it goes down a well-trodden path with nothing new at all it fits my requirements quite neatly.

4 extended tracks that kept my attention. There won’t be anyone else remotely interested in this on here but nonetheless, for the record, jolly decent.

Much maligned album. The live side is fine, and the solo pieces on side two are charming, defects and all. The album before Waters started to dominate

Perhaps - Perhaps 4

I have recommended their debut album on here a number of times. It is 1 long track, without breaks that is jammy, a bit Avant-garde, progressive and loud. Surprisingly I like it a lot.

This is the 4th album and again, 1 long track - they have added vocals and sax to the mix.... blimey, it’s somewhat cacophonous and monotonous in its pace and intensity with that psyche space jamming feel to it but I do seem to like what they do, more so than the out and out space jammers like Oresund Space Collective.

One definitely needs to gird the loins before embarking on this but I will do so again albeit with a little trepidation. There’s a possibility I’ll hate it next time.

Invertigo - Veritas

German neo-prog band’s 2nd album from 2010. A few hard edges veering towards prog metal but on the whole a quite tuneful and guitar rich album that I’ve rather enjoyed.

Another excellent album from Lee Abraham with his many stellar guests.

A chap I’ve waxed lyrical abot before (well, as lyrical as I can get) and I’m delighted he’s done it again. Great tunes, mean guitar and an all round top release.
