Re: PROG CORNER
Pain of Salvation - Be
A veritable smorgasbord of different prog styles contained within this 75 minute offering from Sweden’s foremost prog metal band.
I like some prog metal but there is so much of it about and a lot of it just doesn’t appeal.... this however is really growing on me - probably because it really isn’t especially heavy most of the time. Fairly light on the heavy metal riffing thankfully.
Recommended. It takes a bit of time as it’s pretty huge but well worth the effort after a while.

Re: PROG CORNER
Dutch neo prog band’s 4th album is full of tunes and is a touch heavier than most neo.
I’ve played a few of their albums in recent years and although decent they were a bit 2nd division in my mind. However I am warming to them more with this one and will be revisiting their output.

Re: PROG CORNER
As the years go by I get more into Pain of Salvation. I don’t know any of their albums inside out but they have grown enough on me to keep dipping into their catalogue for another album to listen to.
This one is a live acoustic set and is bloody marvellous. Not that I find their studio albums too heavy as although they are classed as prog metal they rarely go into dirty vocals and metal riffing, both of which aren’t my thing, but this surpasses expectations and any acoustic live albums I can recall hearing before. Recommended!
Pain of Salvation - 12:5.

Re: PROG CORNER
Will get back to you on that soon C.
Can’t take my ears away from this at the moment!
My 1st listen to Karmamoi - why has it taken me so long?! This is terrific. Doesn’t sound like any Italian prog I’ve heard before. Deep and dark - it’s an album “inspired” by the Grenfell Tower tragedy.
I don’t think I’ve been so taken by a virgin play for a long while.
Karmamoi - The Day is Done
Here is a particularly robust track.

Look To Windward - Fortunes Haze
This is the debut album from New Zealand band. Some strong reviews attracted me. It’s certainly got something going for it with ambient, prog, metal, death metal all chucked into the mix. The intermittent heavy riffing and occasional dirty vocals put me off but a promising start. At least they are trying something a bit different and that deserves respect.

Re: PROG CORNER
What about the Karmamoi track C?
NP
TNNE - Wonderland (released in 2017.)
This band hails from that hotbed of prog, Luxembourg. (Have also seen them stated as being Russian, but I take the former.) Formed in the 80s as No Name they disbanded and reunited as TNNE (The No Name Experience.)
They remind me a little of various Polish neo prog bands I enjoy. Enjoying it.

No idea why I bought the Van Der Graaf - just awful, haven't played it for years now I remember why.

Worth it for Family Snapshot and Through The Wire I suppose, but not really a fan of the rest.

Tompox - Reincarnation
Hungarian band formed from the ashes of Solaris. Very accomplished largely instrumental prog. Symphonic jazz fusion with lots of flute.
Jolly pleasant.
