As dark and deep as you'd expect. Apparently the whole album is indicative of a release from his demons of depression and self doubt....

Can't say I'd picked up on that yet but it sounds worthy of more attention even if a bit more heavily ambient than I normally go for.

Got to say I was a little bit disappointed with Anathema's Distant Satellites, but everything else I've listened to thus far this year has been most rewarding.

Keep up the good work with your recommendations lads.

Give Distant Satellites another go. I liked it on early plays but it sounded rather similar to Weather Systems and not as good...

Had a break for a few months then went back to it recently and it sounded great. You might find the same...

Very strong Swedish prog band who don't get the attention they deserve.

Italian prog metal - it is what it is, and considerably better than some. (I do find it quite hard to distinguish between the bands in this sub-genre though - probably because I don't listen to them enough.)

Kingcrow - "Eidos"

Some of this album (the less heavy bits) is really good.

This track is excellent - sounds more Polish than Italian...

I picked up a recommendation for this a few weeks ago from somewhere (can't remember). A 2 track album from a Russian psyche / prog / space /stoner fusion band.

Pretty damned good.

The Grand Astoria - "The Mighty Few"

Quite a noisy start to the day.... Dutch Symphonic metal with female vocals. Decent for the right mood.

It's ok but they come down the list of favourite Polish prog for me. Bit too much of the heavy riffs for my tastes.

Riverside, Votum, SBB etc. - all excellent.

Not sure how Polish band Millenium has escaped my attention until yesterday.

This is excellent. All tracks around 10 mins long, good songs, decent guitar and some unexpected instrument solos chucked in from time to time - trumpet, sax etc.

Recommended.

This isn't bad. Several tracks are very Middle Eastern influenced and that ethnic / world thing seems to be the cornerstone of what is otherwise a varied progressive sound. Young Polish duo who are touring with Riverside.
