Did I sing praise for old Joe before on BCB?
Anyway, just like Tony Joe White some of his songs were covered and turned into big hits by other people.
Hush, Rose Garden, Games people play, Birds of a feather, Walk a mile in my shoes.
In 1975 he made a comeback record for Island. The incredibly good Midnight Rainbows. Never released on CD.
Raven did an excellent job in releasing the anthology
but also the 2-on-1's
Any fan of this great artist?

Re: Joe South
I was on quite a Joe South kick a few years ago. He walks that delicate line between soulful and cornball with generally incandescent results.
I've done a vinyl>>>CDR transfer of Midnight Rainbows if anyone's interested.

Except for hearing him on the radio growing up and the thread or two on the board I know very little of him.
Because of the last thread started I've begun looking at the lps when I run across them in the used shop. I have yet to bring one home. Someday.........

They're worth it.

Re: Joe South
Fans of Joe should be aware that Raven will release another two-fer on May 4.
So the seeds are growing / A look inside.

Re: Joe South
Getting into him these days. Will report back when I've done more 'concentrated' listening. Do we have an RIP thread? I would assume we do, but I couldn't find it.

Me too, oddly enough. Picked up all of the Raven two-fers plus a couple of CDs of early early stuff. Haven't listened to all of 'em yet, but I've mostly enjoyed what I have.

Re: Joe South
Noticed that my original post is from 2009.
In 2015 this was released, much of his earliest work solo and with other artists.
Product Description
Joe South entered the Top 20 with his Grammy winning award song, Games People Play in 1969. The song was featured on his highly respected album, Introspect . Two years later, Lyn Anderson scored a big country/pop hit with another of Joe's songs, "Rose Garden". Joe's career, however, began ten years earlier and he did it all. He was a recording artist, in demand session player, songwriter and producer. He played an important role in the early career of the Tams and Billy Joe Royal and both acts have had rock and roll longevity. Golden Records 1961-1966 brings together the very best of Joe's songs from this period. Some he recorded himself, some he produced for others but he wrote them all. On this CD, we find hits such as the Tams Untie Me from 1962 and Billy Joe Royal's Down In The Boondocks from 1965. Rare Rockin' Records have also included some rare titles from artists such as the Chips, Vince Everett, Billy Joe Royal and Joe himself. Many are on CD for the first time. 32 tracks, 8 in stereo with a sound quality that so reflects the title of this CD, Golden Records.
