What ever happened to the guy who wrote such great songs as "Wond'ring Again", "Life's a Long Song", and "Reason for Waiting"? "Aqualung" is a fine song, but his onstage performance is annoying in the extreme. Lots of musicians need to do a little more onstage than just stand there, but my god, Anderson had the songs, he didn't need to mug and gurn and "entertain". He long ago bought into some mistaken belief that he had to entertain the rabble. Every YouTube clip I see of them just embarrasses me. But jesus the songs were good for a while.

Camel are a funny band. Even though they look cool, almost like some Krautrockers, they make music that is essentially prog easy listening. A lot of their stuff is not of much use to me, but the sound they make is nice and sometimes the parts are appealing. I think, like The Moody Blues, they harken back to pre-psychedelic sounds -- in Camel's case, it's Hank Marvin melodies, it seems -- and thus sound pretty uncool. But I guess there's a place for it.

A great oddity. You can really see how people would get excited about Emerson seeing him in a club at this time. There weren't many (any?) musicians could touch him. The Nice were a cool balancing act between prog and garage and psychedelic and jazz and whatever else. ELP had their moments, but ultimately I do prefer The Nice.
