Elton was the Ed Sheeran of his day, it's up to you whether you take that as a positive or not. I'd rather listen to Elton or Sheeran than solo McCartney.

Whilst I enjoyed some of Elton's 70s records at the time I rarely listen to them now but I still do listen to 70s' McCartney's records, so McCartney it is for longevity.

I have twice as many Macca albums as I do EJ titles and I have two Elton John albums. Neither have been very important in my musical life, outside of Paul's work with the Beatles.

I just read that Elton has said that he's retiring from touring soon, joining the likes of Neil Diamond and Slayer in recent similar announcements.
Where would rock 'n' roll be without feedback?
