Which musician do you really not want to die next?

Postby Minnie the Minx » 14 Aug 2009, 22:58

We're all a bit distraught at certain times when they shuffle off this mortal coil, but I got to thinking who would be the next person whos death would really affect me.

After long, morbid thought processes I came up with, David Bowie. I really would feel like a part of my life had gone.

So in that melancholy frame of mind, who would you like not to die next?
You come at the Queen, you best not miss.

Oddly, just today I was dreading the day that George Clinton will die.
Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

Yeah, that's going to bust me up.

Beefheart, too (who, not be morbid, is reported to not be in the best of health).

Most gutted:
McCartney
Townshend
Roy Wood
Wyatt

I don't want any of them to die next because I don't want them to die at all...

Charlie Watts.. he gets cooler as he gets older. Think how great he'll be at 90.

Bowie would be my choice too. I don't think any one musician has shaped my personal aesthetic more than him; he's been a constant presence ever since I've been listening to music, so he'd be a real loss.

Other than that, I would be sad if Tom Waits died as well.

I fear he's gonna go soon. It will be a very sad day.

I'll add Holger Czukay. He's getting up there in years, though when I saw him play a few years back, he still appeared to be in good health.

Willy DeVille's death hit me. I always liked him and he continued to do excellent work up to and including last years' Pistola.

MOJO is going to have to start issuing Real Gone as a standalone supplement in the coming years. A lot of artists I love have died, but there are so, so many people whose music has affected me.

For me I think it's Dylan. The world won't be the same. I'm glad he recorded all those Theme Time Radio Hours... those will be a nice legacy to go along with the music.
["Minnie the Stalker"]The first time that we met I knew I was going to make him mine.

Jackie Leven for me. He came to mind because, like me, he's an overweight Fifer, too fond of his beer. And he'll be 60 next year, and he's had a hard life: surviving a murder attempt and heroin addiction. I can't think of any rock musician who has had such a productive and impressive creative life in his 40s and 50s. Maybe he puts out too much - 24 albums since 1994! - but each of his records has something special on it and now and then, they are consistently good.

My world is totally without him.

Incidentally, can we vote for who we would like to see go next?
