My parents wanted to see them live, too. Their tours would always visit a venue not too far away, but by the time the advert had made the local paper they'd already sold out.

The biggest act we've ever had play a local public bash was Lofty from It Aint Half Hot Mum, at our New Year's Eve do about 20 years ago.
