It was raining when we drove up the two-lane highway through the long tunnel of trees that led into the black district on the south end of St. Martinville.

Yes, it was like a family reunion with your long lost uncles. (The living room-sized 12-Bar Club being a major part of this...) The band members were very relaxed and improvised a lot, but they were all doing their best to get the music across, resulting in some sterling performances (sometimes to the surprise of the musicians themselves.)

And then you'd have Joe Boyd popping in for a chat (everyone was advised to keep quiet about the Mojo award that he'd be getting the next day), the boss of Hux Records selling his CDs in the backroom, and yours truly signing gig posters...
