Fair enough.

I still think they didn't find an adequate replacement for either vocalist. Karoli was weak.

Mind you, you're talking about some of the most unique and extreme vocalists ever, so it wasn't an easy task.

And vocals were never really the point, were they?

Van Halen

Arguably, Eddie Van Halen is the "leader" of VH. But if we're talking lead vocals...

* David Lee Roth - Lead Vocals (1977-1984)
* Sammy Hagar – lead vocals, rhythm guitar (1985–1996)
* Mitch Malloy - lead vocals (1996)
* Gary Cherone – lead vocals (1996–1999)
VH take hiatus from '99-'03
* Sammy Hagar - (2003–2005)
* David Lee Roth - Lead Vocals (2006 - Present)

Personally I have no interest in anything post George but as a live act they still cut the mustard.

I agree, although I would say that by getting a female singer they neatly sidestepped the Lowell comparisons.

A decidedly minor example, but Gin Blossoms continued for one fine single (co-written with Marshall Crenshaw) and one universally ignored album after their original guitarist/songwriter committed suicide.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Damned. Lead guitarist and songwriter Brian James is booted out after a lackluster second album. The Captain switches from bass to guitar and proves to be at least James' equal, if not better. The songs also became more varied and interesting too. I don't think anyone expected much from them after the James split.

Really, the musical leader of Can was always Holger Czukay. And they did continue after he left the band... with Saw Delight (where he is minimally present) and Out Of Reach (where he he completely absent).

They are generally regarded as their two worst LPs.

He returned for their final album, which is notably improved from the two previous ones.

Equally surprised that no one has yet mentioned Mott The Hoople.
After Ian Hunter eloped with Mick Ronson and left the rest of the band up shit creek without
a vocalist and lead guitarist,they carried on as 'Mott'.In came Nigel Benjamin on vocals &
Ray Major on lead guitar.
Their first album "Drive On" was only a minor hit,their second album "Shouting & Pointing" failed
miserably,which for me was a real shame.Two albums that I really enjoyed at the time.

Better still,after Nigel Benjamin left 'Mott' in came ex 'Medicine Head' vocalist John Fiddler.
The band then changed their name to the 'British Lions'. After their debut album "British Lions"
and the follow up " Trouble With Women" died a thousand deaths,they called it a day.
Which again was a real shame,as I think in places both the 'British Lions' albums seem to capture some
of what 'Mott The Hoople' were all about in those early days,even if the music was slightly lacking a certain edge/rawness.

Anyone heard those post-Jimbo Doors' albums? I have a perverse desire to hear them.

I used to have a copy of Full Circle. It's pretty awful. The "highlight" is hearing either Kreiger or Manzarek (not sure which) affect a bad sleepy Mexican accent and sing "No Me Moleste Mosquito". It's just dumb.

I got Full Circle in a big pile of free records and didn't listen to it for years. One day, my curiosity got the better of me...

This is a piece of poo with a serviceable jam stuck onto the end.

It was The Doors' last single, and barely scraped into the top 100.
