The '68 Comeback Special - without video.

I'm listening to the second disc of the above:

1. Introductions
2. That's All Right
3. Heartbreak Hotel
4. Love Me
5. Baby What You Want Me To Do
6. Blue Suede Shoes
7. Baby What You Want Me To Do
8. Lawdy Miss Clawdy
9. Are You Lonesome Tonight?
10. When My Blue Moon Turns To Gold Again
11. Blue Christmas
12. Trying To Get To You
13. One Night
14. Baby What You Want Me To Do
15. One Night
16. Memories
17. Heartbreak Hotel
18. One Night
19. Heartbreak Hotel
20. Hound Dog
21. All Shook Up
22. Can't Help Falling In Love
23. Jailhouse Rock
24. Don't Be Cruel
25. Blue Suede Shoes
26. Love Me Tender
27. Trouble/Guitar Man
28. Baby What You Want Me To Do
29. If I Can Dream

Which is basically the 'sit down' and 'stand up' parts from the show.

The 'sit down' part is just astonishing, isn't it? You get this absolute icon, scared shitless (by all accounts) sitting round, jamming & riffing with his backing band - running through stuff they'd rehearsed, and alot they hadn't, and it's just fantastic to hear it, without the visuals. It's kind of primeval, isn't it? The charisma, the way that voice just cuts through all the bullshit - it's spellbinding.

What do you think?

I have this edition of that event:

It is tremendous. The Unplugged section is my favourite, which is no surprise really. The more "showbiz" parts are pretty good tot, though interpolating Guitar Man over and again can get a little grating.

The guy had whatever "it" is in spades. To be charismatic down through this many years - 40! - is something sure enough.

You know, he rips "Lawdy Miss Clawdy" and it's like the best version of it, ever. Amazing, truly amazing.

I have yet a third version of this:

Just the sit-down part this time. The fact this material gets reissued so often is testament to it's greatness.

Seriously, your thread gave me an Elvis itch. So much so that even though I have it on a CD-R somewhere at home, I ran to the record shop at lunch time to get the record shown by Brotherlouie. Now playing: "baby What You Want Me to Do". Whoo-oooh!

It's clearly the best segment of the whole thing - the way he keeps returning to it, like he's got unfinished business or suchlike? I love that sit down part - wonderful.

There's an (unknown to me) version on the set above of that - it really rocks, much more in a 'rock' way than you'd expect from Elvis.

It's the other show ("Because we did two, you know...") . "Tiger Man" was a companion release to "Memories" with no overlap.
