the Beatles again...
This one is as good as it gets regarding compilation albums, in fact the Hey Jude album tops Yesterday and Today...
side one
1. Can't Buy Me Love
2. I Should Have Known Better
3. Paperback Writer
4. Rain
5. Lady Madonna
6. Revolution
side two
7. Hey Jude
8. Old Brown Shoe
9. Don't Let Me Down
10. The Ballad of John and Yoko
I think that the fact that this is obviously such a hodge podge works totally in it's favor, after Rain, with the exception of the Inner Light (which could have been included), it's just a series of singles. but the additions of Rain and I Should Have Known Better make for a bit of a "rarities"/"favorite obscure Beatles" factor that makes this like a great mix tape...this is easily the best ever Beatles compilation released during their bandhood...I loved the Beatles oldies but goodies, but this has got that special something. In fact, I'll put this up vs any single LP from either the 62-66 or 67-70 collections...

Re: the Beatles again...
The first disc of 1967 - 1970 is just insanely good. I voted for that.

Re: the Beatles again...
I've always loved Past Masters 2- an insane run of singles, every B-side is great, it's diverse, and it's quite possibly the best CD mastering job available until they finally do what they've been promising for eons.
Probably my 3rd favorite Beatles CD (after Revolver and the White Album) all told.

Also an insanely great album...but it does miss the first four years of the group more or less...whereas Hey Jude has I Should Have Known Better, and Can't Buy Me Love....as well as the later stuff.

Re: the Beatles again...
I can't get a handle on all these. Those song titles don't mean anything anymore. I just remember Hey Jude was an odd yet totally great album.
The red and blue albums were nice -- the blue one was the first Beatles album I bought with my own money -- but no matter how great they were, they were instantly superseded by the original album which just had more vibe to them. A compilation of The Beatles' best songs from 1967-1968 will still not be as good as Sgt. Pepper or Magical Mystery Tour or the White Album. I don't know why this is true for me, but it always was. From the beginning, I knew the blue album was just a stopgap until I knew what I wanted to buy. I never listened to it straight through, just skipped around.
I remember the day I bought it, by the time we got home, it was late in the day and I had to go to bed. I was so upset my parents wouldn't let me listen to "Hey Jude". All I wanted to listen to was "Hey Jude"! Then I would have gone to bed gladly. But no, I had to go to bed without listening to "Hey Jude"!!

Magical Mystery Tour of course, just edging out 1967 - 1970

'Past Masters 2' for me. It's the one I have listened to the most. I remember that my mother had a double-vinyl 'Beatles Love Songs' album too. I loved that.

I almost bought the Past Masters LPs today...then I realized, I really do have all of the songs on it....in analog. Such a good price too!
