Up On The Sun is the one I like.

I listened to about two minutes of that Descendants album and turned it off. I don't wanna sound like an arsehole but this sorta thing does nothing for me these days. I kinda feel it's just a bit adolescent and not in a good way.

I should try The Minutemen again. I do own Double Nickels.

I quite like some Fear. I got into them years ago because I read this:

and Belushi was a HUGE fan, almost obsessive. They're aggressive and a little goes a long way, but this is something that will probably always give me a wee kick:

I grew up with it. San Jose, not L.A. though. They had better bands down there.

I don't listen to it much these days, and I was never totally sold on the faster-the-better, screaming slogans over two chords stuff. It was fine for frustrated kids, and it was a real scene that expressed something about how they were feeling.

The better stuff went off that track. Gun Club, Minutemen, Flipper--I still listen to that occasionally, and X I like, but have to admit Exene's voice is something to put up with, not enjoy. Their songs are good.

I don't much listen to the Damned or the Sex Pistols any more either, for that matter.

Minor Threat and Black Flag are horrible.

I genuinely don't get why this cadre of US bands has always been venerated by a number of BCBers, yet you don't see them going on about GBH, The Exploited or Menace. Why doesn't Gash go on about those - it's pretty much the same thing.

Seriously, the Minutemen were great. Get someone like zoomboogity to tell you stories. I'm pretty sure he lived with D. Boon for awhile.

Are you still in the Bay Area? I grew up on the Peninsula in Redwood City, went to San Jose State, lived in San Francisco for five or six years, moved back to the Peninsula, got married and have been in the East Bay for 25 or so years.

I've lived in California off and on a lot, though--Berkeley, LA, San Francisco, Oakland. I love it!
