knowing spector from all those great songs, I didn't really feel like I understood what he did until I heard this christmas album. maybe that's why I like the tracks that favor Spector's trademark bombast over the familiarity of the tune.
in this spirit I select the splendiferous "santa claus is coming to town"

I just about the correct answer, certainly in its first proposition, if not its second.

Yep, that's the one.
The only original song on the LP too.

The "Spector" version of Santa Claus is Comin' to Town, greatly changes the phrasing of the chorus from the original, hitting the words "Santa Claus." That arrangement has subsequently been picked up by acts including the Jackson 5 and Bruce Springsteen.
Somebody asked Spector why he modified the phrasing like that. His reply (why hadn't I thought of that?): "To make it sound more like Da Do Ron Ron."

Wow, that's a surprise- to have the Darlene Love-track so way out in front.
But that's the one tune that always sticks out in my mind thinking about this album. Far away from the recognisable Christmas tunes being done to death every single year.

Damn! this is tough.
Three of my favourite Christmas songs are on this album and to pick just one,well.......like I
said,tough.
I'll have to go with Marshmallow World.
If I could eat this song,I would !
This would be followed by Winter Wonderland and Parade Of The Wooden Soldiers.
Three wonderful songs. They just put me in the Christmas mood, every time.
Right......now where did I put my santa outfit....

In a perfect world, I'd vote for all of them...well, maybe Silent Night could be missed.
So, 'Santa Claus...' it is. I love this album, I look forward to December 1 each year so I can start enjoying the season with Darlene belting out the best ever version of 'White Christmas'. Not just my favourite Xmas album, but also one of my favourite albums of all time.

Does it seem weird having it on in the summer for the first time?

'Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)' is a monster and my favorite track here, but the album is pretty much flawless end-to-end and I love it dearly.

Almost time to give it a spin again (don't like playing Christmas songs too early)...
It's Darlene for me too.

...Sleigh Ride - The Ronettes, by an absolute distance.
Probably the best Christmas tune of all time (slightly ahead of Arthur Daley & Terry McCann)

I went for Marshmallow World. What a snowball in the face that track is.
Baby Please Come Home is magnificent but personal history with that tune makes me cry every time I think about it... including now... thanks a lot, fuckers.
