It was described in the book 'Lost in Music' too. The writer - Giles Smith? - describes the habit of looking in the appropriate section for your favourite artists in record shops etc, just in case there is a record you've not heard of, even when you know that you've got everything. He says it got so bad he would do this in the Our Price on Victoria station, which was little more than a cubbyhole and had stock to match.
