The Christmas Song

Postby Balboa » 06 Dec 2008, 20:45

Ignore the shitty video - I'm going to reclaim this song as one of the greats.

I love Nat King Cole - and I love this song. The vocal is just amazing - shifting through gears when he needs to, the tone is just perfect. The arrangement is great too - nice guitar break. Just a complete performance.

Any other fans?
Of course, I was mostly stoned at the time.

Mel Torme song, right?

I've always liked it.

Yep - although Nat King Cole just owns it.

Just beautiful ! :) My favourite Christmas song by a long way, This version sounds like the second take on it by Nat King Cole ( both really great) some really good Christmas stuff was recorded in the late 40,s early 50,s ,I have made a few compilations from this time but I have found the sad truth is most people want a Slade /wizard :( Christmas
p.s I like the video !! ;)

:D You like the video?

Looking at Wikpedia suggests Cole recorded the song 4 times between '46-'61.

It's sublime.
Torme was a teenager when he penned it. In summer. Started out by a pool.

Of course ! :) its a christmas song with Christmas scenes ,its the way I would love my Christmas to be instead of that boring bit in the afternoon 3.30 pm to 6.45 pm (bloated and bored ,rubbish on tv) especially like the scene of Father Christmas flying through the sky ,nice blue background - honest !

I was walking through the foyer of a Newcastle hotel last week, when I saw and heard a very rowdy bunch of bearded men.

When I got nearer, I heard some of their conversations, all of which were concerned with who was the best chess player, who had won more tournaments, that sort of thing.

Ah, well, I thought, at least it's seasonal.

Chess nuts boasting in an hotel foyer.
Know what really makes me mad? They clean me with a Brillo pad...
