I'm talking about that song that cuts through the buzzing and still hits that primal spot of your brain that still can appreciate music. Not the Phish/Grateful Dead bullshit either; I'm talking the real deal - music that still sounds good when you're completely sober but hits that strong note right when you're there y'know??
I mean, can anything get better than 1:40 of Roxy Music's "If There Is Something"?? If so I wanna know, because I'm on my fourth and hearing a man desperately singing about growing potatoes to minor key triplets is about the finest thing I can think of.
Can you beat this my fine feathered friends?

Neil Young's 'Powderfinger' is really good once you've knocked back some grog.
"U2 routinely spent a year in the studio...I have a theory: if you put four monkeys in the studio for a year with Lanois and Eno and Lillywhite, they would make a pretty good record, too."

"Memo from Turner" on a jukebox that just played Green Day.

She Sells Sanctuary cuts through the fug quite nicely.

Despite me not being Irish, I was in a pub in Galway one evening a while back, probably at around that 4th pint of Guinness stage, and the Dropkick Murphys' version of The Wild Rover came on ... marvelous !!
