Thank you - having read the link I'm even more surprised I knew nothing of this - in my teens was quite a Clapton fan & have read several biographies etc, don't recall hearing about the stunt.

Yea but Jagger was a superstar in 1967, Bowie was nobody. I don't think Mick would have given him the time of day if they bumped into each other in the hallways of the BBC. I wonder was their friendship an attempt for Jagger to stay relevant in the 70's when he was starting to see the writing on the wall. He wasn't a leader anymore but he was going to get next to the guy who was. Same with Ringo and Bolan.
