Far out! Mother's Finest was the first major-label-signed club-level band I ever saw. In the summer of 1980, I was 14 years old, and I attended a two week "music camp" at East Carolina University. By coincidence, Mother's Finest had a gig on the campus on the first night of my camp. I knew who they were although I didn't really know their music (one of my older brothers had their first album), so I made sure I was there. It was a pretty tiny place they were playing in, and the gig was not terribly well attended (I'm pretty sure I was the only "music camper" there, oddly enough). But they rocked - oh yes, they did. I never did buy any of their records, though.

Hot damn! ATL's finest!

One of my best gigs ever was opening for Mother's Finest at The Tabernacle, here in Atlanta. Big crowd, big sound, great audience. They're a fantastic live band.
Freak out. Far out.

I'm pretty sure that in the new money, this would be a Million Dollar Jam:

I hate to go all Simpsons on y'all, but here are some tried and true summer hits.

Gruene Hall is a certified BCB destination.

Sadly, two of these dudes no longer darken the door.
The first seconds of this suck, but as soon as they lock into it, it's all over.
They were Assassins.

The fucking motherlode. If you don't like ZZ Top, that's your cross to bear, not mine. The only problem with this is the snare drum sound, which seems to lack snares and is highly irritating.

"I don't care what your friends have to say"

You lucky bastards. Patience is paying dividends for the Million Dollar Jam connoisseur.
First, we get "Balinese," which has been a gross oversight on the part of the youtube Gods.

But here we have the acme of the Million Dollar Jam. I've been waiting for this bitch to pop up on youtube, and it's a pretty fucking timely find.
Seriously, one of my favorite, favorite records. A Million Dollar Jam:

EDIT:
Here's the flip side. I really want this record!

Great stuff! I think I might prefer the B-side.

I've gone back and forth over the years and wouldn't begrudge anyone choosing one over the other. But I think "Back In Love Again" is such a lovely, dramatic production.

Yeah, I think I prefer the flipside too, but it's a fine platter all the way 'round.

"Balinese" "has been removed due to terms of use violation." :(

Here's a lesser known gem from one of the all-time rockin'est combos:

Re: the Huey track - y'know what, that's a different take from the one I'm used to! I wouldn't have noticed except that the drum fill at the very end is slightly different... played "on different drums" (as The Troggs would say).

It's kinda depressing for a music forum to be proud of not knowing musicians.
