Johnny Marr recording with The Cribs

Postby Carl's Son » 21 Feb 2008, 18:44

I went to see The Cribs last night and to my astonishment Johnny Marr turned up on stage to perform Panic and then stick around to the end of the set.

I was doing a bit of digging on the internet trying to discover if this was a one off or not and it turns out they've been in the studio together and wrote and recorded 4 songs in a week. Things went so well that they're now considering a whole album together, rather than the initially planned ep.
I can just about handle you driving like a pissed up crackhead and treating women like beanbags but I'm gonna say this once and once only Gene, stay out of Camberwick Green!

Just a note to this. Johnny Marr will be on Radcliffe and Maconie on Monday night.

Just listen as Maconie goes into suck-up overdrive.

I worked with a prominent former producer of Marr's best work, and the two man breakfast table conversation centered around Marr's almost pathological desire to slum it for eternity was explicitly graphic in language.

He has this fantasy that he is just a jobbing musician free to take his guitar for hire where-ever it is needed, read any interview with him and that is what comes across, he is pathetically grateful when any second division indie band invites him onboard and acts as if he needs to work to bring in the money for his wife and family.

He should get used to the fact that he is one of the most important rock gods these isles have ever produced and live with it, the humility does my head in.

Couldn't have been last weekend, he was playing in the house band for the Timmy Mallet roadshow.

No one but me think this might actually be quite good then? Their last album is good fun and he's writing with them rather than simply being guitar for hire.

Modest Mouse's new album is easily their best to date.... Oh yeah - Johnny Marr. It's a great one. One of my top 15 of 2007.
Cheers.

This just in: The Cribs have announced details of their comeback UK tour, road testing new material in smaller venues before they go away to record a new album with new member Johnny Marr.

The gigs are in February so we can expect an album sometime after that!
