Just picked up from HMV, they're selling for same price in store. Havent listened yet but this is no bargain, the packaging is mega cheap, why they bothered with gatefold cardboard sleeve yet zero credits, no detail on songwriting or anything, just gatefold cardboard sleeve and cd.

So I'm not going to moan about the price, that is fair enough but expected a bit more effort for a reissue. Will give them a listen over the weekend.

In HMV today, they had a number of tempting offers. Best of all was Opeth's magnum opus Blackwater Park for £2.99 on CD. This is a masterpiece of the prog/metal crossover and is one of the finest modern albums of all.

I have it and you're right. It's their best.

cheap, but the remasters sound worse than the originals. The ones I've heard sounded dull so you lose the sparkle on the guitar and Siouxsie sounds too low in the mix. I bought The Scream when it came out and returned it, pronto.

These are new remasters but have no idea if they are an improvement on the previous ones.

I haven't kept track either - there was a glib comment on superdeluxeedition

"The first 4 have been remastered again, and have now been somewhat brickwalled and muddied, the way only Kevin Metcalfe can do. But the price is cheap and I hear they come in gatefold sleeves."

I've stuck with my 80's/90's cd versions and the LP's. The remaster program has been a dogs dinner from the start - its a pity as this is probably going to be as good as it gets for the banshees.

"Need" is a relative term, but objectively it's a stretch to say you need this set if you already have the albums on CD. Personally, I love it.

The sound of the remasters on the box set is excellent to my ears, not compressed or EQ-juiced like the 1999 REMASTERED EDITION reissues. The 2-disc singles set includes all the b-sides, edits and remixes (although it forgoes the single version of Over You that fades before the segue into 8 Miles High).

I love the simplicity of the packaging; no book with an historic essay and photos and all that; just the albums in well-made gatefold, glossy cardboard sleeves with some photo session outtakes inside those that weren't originally gatefold.

I'm sure some people prefer the sound of the 1999 versions of the albums so you might try borrowing a copy or getting a CDR of an album or two from the box before deciding if you well and truly need it. They do sound quite different... you'll know if it's to your audio tastes or not.

:( Doesn't sound good. I agree with you about the previous remasters and these seem no better. Best to seek out the original releases then.

I recall Kevin Metcalfe getting a bit of a slagging off on the Hoffman forum.
