What is the best Faces album ?

Postby Mike Boom » 30 Oct 2023, 23:22

First Step
Long Player
A Nod Is As Good As A Wink
Ooh La La
Coast to Coast:Overture and Beginners

Your mission should you decide to accept it is to rank them in order of goodness.

Aside from the post-Ronnie Lane live album (pee-YOO!), they got better as they went along, in my opinion. Though if someone else wants to argue that A Nod... is superior to Ooh La La, I'm not gonna fight about it.

1. Nod's .......
2. Ooh La La
3. Long Player
4. First Step

All the above are worth having in the order written. The one below is for completists.

Coast To Coast - poor album

My order as well, but all with peaks and troughs. A live band first, a studio band out of necessity

Sorry, I have no Faces albums

My loss, I am sure

Now Humble Pie, that's a different matter...

Yep, this.

How do you so strongly favour Humble Pie over the Faces, C? I don't get it.

Ooh La La is my favourite by a long chalk.
I love that Rod is less present on it - not because I do not like him but because I love the songs sung by Plonk, Woody and Mac.

Then as expected Nod's, LP, FS.
The live one is worthless - there are a hundred bootlegs with the real band.
And the Five Guys box set renders it pointless as well as worthless.

Frankly if I had no Faces at all, I'd be happy with the box.
Complete Ramones Mp3 set on its way

Now I know you’re just being silly and it’s Faces not The Faces.

Ouch Rob - that's a bit pedantic!

It's Strawbs but in a sentence we would probably say 'I saw The Strawbs yesterday"

or

It's Groundhogs but in a sentence we would probably say 'I saw The Groundhogs yesterday"

or

It's Mothers of Invention but in a sentence we would probably say 'I saw The Mothers of Invention yesterday"

Maybe some wouldn't...?

I suppose it depends on how it sounds

"Faces don't" sounds odd

However, the following sound ok:

'I saw Mountain yesterday"

'I saw Stray yesterday"

Interesting

Really, what Rob....?

Interesting?

I thought it was.

Certain bands seems to lend themselves to have the determiner 'the' at the front when talking/writing about said band.

"The Mountain were a good band" doesn't sound right to me

Whereas "The Strawbs were a good band" sounds right to me

Never mind

As you were

Did they not become Rod Stewart and The Faces at one point?

Yes, after his international success with Every Picture and not with the band's agreement - some promoter advertised them as such, it caused a lot of discontent apparently.
