Skynyrd had two songs, and one of those was awful. Dreadful band. If you want a really good bar band, try the Hold Steady.

Pretty sure I saw them live supporting someone bigger once, have to say they didn’t make much of an impression, mind you I have a feeling it might have been QotSA they were supporting, could be wrong.

I was watching a nearly 3 hour-long doc on Skynyrd, and of course they mentioned Allman Brothers Band. Imagine, all these years I have pronounced it "AWL-MAN", but it is actually "AL-MAN" !!

The Dickey Betts solo albums and his band ones are all excellent.

Secondly, the Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks guitar line-up took some beating

Check out the superb live album: One Way Out recorded in 2003 it is absolutely superb - as good as Fillmore [well almost!]

As for Gregg's solo albums, I have two or three - including Playin' Up a Storm which you highlight. I like them.

He was better in the band - his superb voice suited the Allman's style.

I loved Lynyrd Skynyrd also but if push came to shove I'd go for The Allmans every time

Once again (this never gets tiring) my dear old friend Stephen is mostly right.

I started investigating the Betts solo stuff once I was Allman'd out. Pretty good stuff I must stay.

As for the Haynes/Trucks line-up: they are equal to the original guitarists in my book.

Gregg's solo : I'm staying away from it.

I like the first solo album by Greg (Laid Back?). It took me years, a decade or so so come around. I like his version of Jackson Browne’s These Days.

100% agree with SS Allmans we’re way better than LS and had way more amazing songs. I’ll also take Marshall Tucker over LS.

Agree the Allmans don’t have many albums and the solo stuff is just okay although live Greg’s solo album with No Angel.

I like Skynyrd very much - I have twelve of their fourteen albums.

Lynyrd Skynyrd 1991, Edge of Forever and Twenty are very good Johnny-led albums

The live album Lyve from Steel Town is, in my opinion, excellent

LET'S ROCK!!






Notwithstanding, I'd still take The Allman's over Skynyrd.

don't have to tell me C - saw them 10 times including multiple Beacon shows.
I'll also add I consider the Allmans bands make up a family that is still growing.
I go to Peach Festival (started by Greg Allman) which still has roots of Allman kids bands, ex members bands and other usually a mix of them all.
