To my ears, some of Jean-Luc's lines sound a bit as if he's improvising on melody lines from Eleanor Rigby.

'Mystical Adventures Suite, Part III'

Oh, for an age when such were the titles of tunes on records.

Instead of our own age's 'How much is weed?' or 'Pussy Fairy (OTW)' (sadly, bothy actual examples from the real world).

*sigh*

Interestingly, when still a teenager, Ponty developed a growing interest in Miles Davis and John Coltrane which compelled him to take up tenor saxophone. One night after an orchestra concert, and still wearing his tuxedo, Ponty found himself at a local club with only his violin. Within four years, he was widely accepted as the leading figure in "jazz fiddle".

The rest is history!
