The last Beatles song - worldwide release November 2

Postby GoogaMooga » 26 Oct 2023, 15:00

Just announced:

https://www.thebeatles.com/announcement ... mC8GgVJI5g

“NOW AND THEN” TO BE RELEASED WORLDWIDE
THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 2 AT 2PM GMT / 10AM EDT / 7AM PDT

THE BEATLES’ 1962-1966 (‘THE RED ALBUM’) AND 1967-1970 (‘THE BLUE ALBUM’) COLLECTIONS EXPANDED, MIXED IN STEREO & DOLBY ATMOS FOR 2023 EDITION RELEASES OUT NOVEMBER 10

London – October 26, 2023 – Together and apart, The Beatles have always had a talent for the unexpected. And now, 2023 brings one of the most anticipated releases of their long and endlessly eventful history. “Now And Then” is the last Beatles song – written and sung by John Lennon, developed and worked on by Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, and now finally finished by Paul and Ringo over four decades later.

“Now And Then” will be released worldwide at 2pm GMT / 10am EDT / 7am PDT on Thursday, November 2 by Apple Corps Ltd./Capitol/UMe. The double A-side single pairs the last Beatles song with the first: the band’s 1962 debut UK single, “Love Me Do,” a truly fitting full-circle counterpart to “Now And Then.” Both songs are mixed in stereo and Dolby Atmos, and the release features original cover art by renowned artist Ed Ruscha. The new music video for “Now And Then” will debut on Friday, November 3. More details including global premiere plans will be announced.

I enjoyed "George Harrison's" social media hyping this song yesterday and today. As we all know . . .

Wikipedia wrote:The project was largely shelved due to George Harrison's dislike of the song. McCartney later stated that Harrison called Lennon's demo recording "fucking rubbish".[9] McCartney told Q in 1997 that "George [Harrison] didn't like it. The Beatles being a democracy, we didn't do it."

 George , definitely my favorite Beatle.

Describing the attack from an intruder in 1999 in which he was stabbed 40 times.

According to the musician’s son, Harrison described Abram by saying: “He wasn’t a burglar and he certainly wasn’t auditioning for the Traveling Wilburys.”

At least the Stones have written some new songs.

Apple just keeps the money machine turning.

Come to think of it: so do the Stones.

For the same reason you would be in interested in a ‘lost’ piece of music from one of your favourites I would suspect C.

Let’s face it C. the Beatles would have thousands more fans desperate for any new scrap of ‘new music’ proferred, than any of your favourite bands. That’s why they bother.

Personally, I wish they wouldn’t as neither of the two new pieces they have released subsequent to their split have been entirely worthy of their reputation. Both have been a bit of a dirge.

So I don't have to buy a full, expanded red or blue CD !

That's not true Rob - I wouldn't wet my knickers over one 'lost track' even if it was by the mighty Principal Edwards Magic Theatre (with or without The Magic Theatre post-1973)

So there!

While not being made available on a CD single, it is apparently being released on a 7"single : a double-A side with "Love Me Do" (so their last release on one side, and their first on the other, i.e. "now and then" (see what they did there?)).

So you don't have to buy the over-inflated "Blue Album" to get the "new" track.

However the 7" vinyl single is priced at....
...£14.99
oh the sun is shining
and I'm on that road

They changed their minds:

CD single release date November 3

Okay, the evening news had a little feature on the new Beatles single, "Now and Then", that lands in the shops tomorrow. That is, those few high street record shops that are left. I heard a few seconds of it, and it sounds alright. Who knows, it may even turn out to be more interesting than "Free as a Bird" or "Real Love". I think it's going to be massive. Never underestimate the Beatards, who span several generations. My cousin's youngest son is a millennial and a devout Beatles fan. One thing about the artificial intelligence that was used, it was only to clean up the Lennon home recording, so no AI-generated music to worry about. Insofar as it has made a crackling old home recording listenable, I am all for it. The minute you use AI to compose or create, though, that's where I draw the line!

I feel I should buy it, just...... because.

But... HMV are selling the 12" for £23! and £18 for the 7" on blue vinyl.

That's insane.

Record cover by Pop artist Edward Ruscha.

It has to be said.... a bit of an uninspiring design for such a landmark piece of music.
