Final Beatles song to be released as part of expanded Red and Blue

Postby GoogaMooga » 01 Aug 2023, 23:26

"Now and Then" it is called. Was meant for the Anthology series, but technology wasn't there yet for what was essentially a raw demo. September 2023.

I believe you are conflating two things.

Reports I am seeing say the final version of "Now and Then" is due out this year. I am also seeing reports that the Red and Blue albums (1962-1966 and 1967-1970; presumably both will retain those titles) are due a re-issue (presumably a 50th anniversary edition?) in September.

I don't believe the two are connected; is there somewhere that says they are?

Read it on Facebook, but forget the context. I think it was one of those ads they pick for you.

"Those ads they pick for you" are often AI. I strongly believe the headline is misleading (though folks here aren't likely to be misled by it to be fair). This might be a bit nitpicky, but I'd recommend changing it.

Actually, I haven't seen anything to say that the Red and Blue albums are going to be expanded, for that matter.

Just reporting what I read. And Red and Blue will be expanded (not that I care).

Read in some ad that you don't remember. Source for Red and Blue being expanded?

Never mind - I found an article that connected them. It certainly reads like it was written by a bot. There has been no report from the Beatles camp that the release of "Now and Then" and the Red and Blue albums are in any way connected. Not saying they're not, just saying there's no evidence that they are.

It's actually based on a news report about Penn Jillette (of Penn & Teller) visiting Abbey Road studios. Listening to the podcast done by Jilette now.

Final Beatles song to be released; Red and Blue albums reissued in September (possibly expanded)

Postby toomanyhatz » 02 Aug 2023, 23:03

Penn, at least, does not in any way say (or imply) that the Red and Blue albums are going to be expanded. He talks about the remix process for both Now and Then and those albums, but doesn't connect them.

"Final Beatles song to be released" seems 100% accurate, however. Just not seeing any credible sources for the rest.

Good detective work, Hatz. It may have been written by a bot, what a scam. I did not know they had bots doing such "news" reports, seems a pointless exercise to me. But, we shall see in the fall...

On a different note, is there any way you can listen to the unreleased Now and Then online? I hope they release it as a single, because there is no way I am going to buy the red and blue again.

As an aside, Blue needs no expanding
The Red was always woefuly deficient on the Revolver (and Rain) front and is less than an hour long anyway
It could definitely use expansion

I love the Red; Blue not so much. Red is absolutely perfect, but then I prefer early Beatles to late Beatles.

I did.
There is a note in the folder in my complete Beatles Mp3 set that reads:
"Why, on a double album that only runs to 63 minutes, do they include 6 tracks from Rubber Soul but only 2 from Revolver? Why not include Tomorrow Never Knows, Got to Get You Into My Life, I'm Only Sleeping, Here, There and Everywhere, all of which are as important as - or moreso than - say, Girl or Michelle ?. The version I made for my own listening pleasure has all those plus I Saw Her Standing There, Twist and Shout, It Won't Be Long, I Should Have Known Better and The Night Before and still comes in shorter than the Blue album."

The original track listing:

Side One
1. "Love Me Do" 2:22
1962 mono mix from Please Please Me and later single releases (no Ringo)

This is slightly odd, but I knew before I read the list of Slider's tracks that it would fail in one obvious regard.

You can't have Twist and Shout - the idea behind the Red and Blue albums was that they contained
Beatles originals only.
That aside, it is clearly a better list than the original red album.
I kept thinking "swim as far as you can, swim as far as you can".
