Since last time

Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets - saw them two years ago but liked idea of seeing them again in a standing venue up front. Fun show of early Floyd although at times feels like a cover band. They added Echoes to the setlist which was a nice touch
.


The Mars Volta - Although at one of my least favorite venue T5 it will go down as my favorite show of the year. MV's blend of punk, prog and psychedelic Caribbean rhythms is stunning live. Saw them back in the the 00's and even though they broke up for 10 years there was plenty of growth.

I saw this show last night night at the Apollo.

Truly excellent.

There’s not that special buzz of seeing your heroes play, but to see one of my all time favourite albums performed in entirety was fantastic. The singer is great, better than Nad Sylvan for sure.

I saw this show last night night at the Apollo.

Truly excellent.

There’s not that special buzz of seeing your heroes play, but to see one of my all time favourite albums performed in entirety was fantastic. The singer is great, better than Nad Sylvan for sure.

I have some issues with The Musical Box. I’ve seen them twice and box times it has seemed more like a stage show than a gig. They may recreate the original experience but they bring absolutely no personality to the music. For all his flaws, I’d rather have Nad.

Also, Gabriel might have got away with brownface in 1973 but there is absolutely no need for it now, authentic experience or not.

I saw them do The Lamb quite a few years ago at the RAH. Steve Hackett joined them for the encore. The sound was too quiet by over all it was an enjoyable experience.
I saw them again in Basingstoke pre Covid but didn’t enjoy it very much. The inter song ramblings are just embarrassing, the singer is too old and the guitarist looked really very bored.
The downside of seeing them is you know exactly what you are going to get so there isn’t really any excitement or surprise.
I’m glad you enjoyed it. I won’t go see them again.

Volume was fine on Saturday.

I thought the guitarist was just being Steve Hackett who never looked anything other than studious with Genesis hardly moving a muscle, let alone cracking a smile, for his entire career with the band from what I can recall.

There was no inter-song rambling except for 3 bits giving a bit of narrative on Rael’s story.

As for the singer’s age - that’s an odd one to bring up. Too old for what? (I’ll hazard a guess he’s a fair bit younger than Nad!)

Next year it’s Selling England....

Tuesday I saw Dave Alvin and Jimmy Dale Gilmour with The Guilty Ones in Petaluma (CA) in a small theater. Fantastic show. Dave looked and sounded great. First time I’ve seen him since pre covid. I missed them when they came through town about six months ago. He played a new song he cowrote with Terry Allen that was worth the price of admission.
