Oh, this is one I haven't heard in eons!!

I've bought that album from a bargain bin because of the Gentle Giant connection. For some reason, it wasn't part of the ill-advised great get-rid-of-all-the-obscure-progressive-albums-of-minor-interest-that-simply-aren't-very-good purge I stupidly did in the mid-eighties, so I've still got it.

While the "song" as such sucks (not much of a tune, bland vocals, and Ritchie Francis was a poor songwriter - his solo album is even worse, that I did ditch), the instrumental parts are not without charm.

And I easily made it all the way through (but for the record, Mr. C.: my copy of Titus Groan was never in danger off leaving Neigemont Castle )

On paper Zach Condon's approach should be very right up my alley (sprawling multi-instrumentalists with multiple influences, trumpets and accordions galore), but was it the voice? the sometimes chaotic nature? the too-much-of-everything? Somehow it never really clicked.

This is really lovely though. I own the two first Beirut albums, so I'll give them another chance.

Lee Abraham is an artist I love - quite prolific, always melodic, most songs feature a cracking guitar solo (or 2). Often utilises vocals from the excellent Marc Atkinson as does this track.

Portsmouth band formed in 1968. Taken from their only album, Brass Rock 1, released in 1971.

Released in 1977 when Slade were pretty much at their nadir. Reached No 48 in the chart, but is a bit of an undervalued gem in their discography imo.

This track is from AttosecondO, as the cover image indicates, which was recorded and released in 2012

They only made one album, in 1973, and split up during the making of their second soon after.

They reformed in 2010 and released a live album/DVD - Live in Bloom

AttosecondO, is not the complete original line-up but Pietro Pellegrini (keyboards) and Guido Wassermann (guitar) are present from the seventies incarnation.

I have their first eponymous album - very robust
