Although I mainly listen to prog albums in full, I have been in the habit of shuffling my mammoth playlists on Spotify of late, and (shock / horror) I do also listen to other stuff as well which even with “broad church” disclaimers would be a little out of place in REAP Corner.

Anyway, I’m going to try to bung one a day on here of random stuff (incl prog of course) that I particularly enjoyed. Tumbleweed may very well roll across the thread but that’s fine.... I’ll keep it going.

Starting with.....

Nicole Atkins - Maybe Tonight from her debut album Neptune City.

But I remember being intrigued at the time by this record cover of hers.

Yes - I am going to enjoy participating in this thread.

My view is that it was 'pleasant' enough but I have heard it once and I don't need to hear it again.

To me it was very superficial, bland and lacked challenge.

This is the type of non-memorable music that isn't my cup tea.

Played well and performed adequately - the viola was my fave contribution - but it didn't make me want to go to Amazon and do a Paul Fish

Along with other fantastic tracks like A Boy in Black Leather and Something Fantastic this one didn’t make the cut for the original debut album release but, although it’s not Big Music, has become one of my favourite tracks of theirs.

Yes, my brother bought me Fisherman's Blues back in the day for my birthday. I enjoyed it but not enough to pursue their catalogue anymore.

I like a bit of Celtic me and that tick a box [albeit a small box]

Regarding Bob's selection - I can't recall the vocals being so similar to the lad Bono's.

The start is a bit slow - does it get going at any stage....?

Four minutes in and we seem to be rocking as much as we are going to rock.

Ok. It's pleasant enough but not my cup of darjeeling.

I like a bit of challenge me and that cut certainly lacked it.

Barock Project - Happy To See You (from the excellent album Detachment).

Italian prog band (with some pop influences) featuring vocals from Peter Jones (the blind multi instrumentalist singer songwriter who has been part of Camel live of late).

A great song, with superb instrumental section.

Sends me every time.

This is included on the reissue from 2002 along with the other tracks you mentioned but, oddly, this was added amongst the original album tracks rather than as a bonus at the end.

I love The Waterboys up until they went folky.

His last album was surprisingly good, but I'm not a fan of his solo stuff as a rule apart from a few tracks such as this.

Hadn't heard that Waterboys track before, excellent stuff from a marvelous band, don't much care for Marillion but enjoyed the Barock Project track.

I do like the folky stuff but much prefer the albums before Fisherman’s Blues.

And yes, I also found the placement on the reissue surprising / odd.

My Luminaries - The Outsider Steps Inside

A band from my home town of Reading. The singer songwriter James Ewers’ Mum is my Financial Advisor so I took an interest!

They should have been huge but after releasing one album, the excellent Order From The Chaos, disbanded which was really disappointing.

This is a single (not on the album) and is a top notch piece of rock / pop / indie / whatever.

Lee Abraham - Harbour Lights (from the album The Seasons Turn which is a real treat.)

Excellent vocals by Marc Atkinson (as always), nice build, great guitar... what’s not to like?

Trettioariga Kriget - Gnistor Sparks

Swedish largely instrumental band who are a bit patchy but churn out the occasional superb piece of music. I actually won a round in a Prog Cup with one of their tracks a few years ago.
