The drummer out of The Flamin' Groovies - Lie

No. They played Redcar Coatham Bowl waaaaaay back when, with The Damned as support. I wandered backstage and asked some guy which one was Roy Loney. He (the drummer as it turned out) informed me that Roy had left some years before but he happily chatted with us for a while. He was a very nice man.

We'll get there eventually: Shane?

Not yet!

I used to go to see the Pogues a lot before they got famous and Shane even snuck is in for free a couple of times. He once helped me open a can of diet Coke after the ring thingy snapped off. He stopped half way through the process with a slightly bemused look and said, 'What the fuck am I doing?'.

Jakko Jakszyk is clearly a made up name. He's probably called 'Michael' or something.

And you never met him.

Lene?

I went to see her in Oxford in 1981. For a few years I suffered from agoraphobia and had an attack towards the end of her show. I was taken backstage and when she came back after the main show she was very concerned about how I was. Eventually I said 'Don't you have an encore to do?' and she said 'Don't worry about that', and I replied 'I AM worried - I want to see it!'

At the intermission of Steve Hackett's show at the Hammersmith Odeon he was coming downstairs while I was going up so I stopped as we passed and told him how much I loved the two King Crimson 50th anniversary shows I saw a few months previously at the Royal Albert Hall.

Damn! Rumbled!

Although funnily enough, when I shared a house with The Slider, one day he came home and mentioned he had nearly run over Rick Wakeman with his motor scooter.

It was outside the BBC and the Yes keyboardist was not looking where he was going as he crossed the road while intent on eating a sandwich. John stopped and looked back and shouted he should look where he was going, before realising he was addressing the creator of both Journey To The Centre Of The Earth narrated by David Hemmings and Return To The Centre Of The Earth featuring Patrick Stewart.

He suggested it would have been dreadful, as he was such a fan of Yes, had he collided with and injured - possibly even killed - his keyboard idol. I said it was resonant of the regretful claim of a WWII Luftwaffe pilot that he had shot down the airplane of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, author of The Little Prince, a book he had loved as a child.

John said 'Never heard of him - but we're saying in the special section of Hell reserved for people who killed their heroes, there might well have been Mark Chapman, this German guy you're talking about, and me...'

You only met two of the Pipettes.

It is true I was hammered so maybe seeing double, but I would definitely claim to have spoken to three of them.

I expect Chris hasn't met Chris?

EDIT. I meant Wakeman, and I was right!
