Back in the day, 17 was one of the first songs I wanted to see on CD and in stereo. It drove me crackers when it appeared in edited form and Ian Anderson criticized it. What does he know?!

It warms my heart to see BCB become once again the virtual library of good manners from which we can all take much-needed counsel and advice.

The only other one that I thought of was Kate Bush's Army Dreamers which is about 20 seconds longer on the single version which continues on to a more satisfying abrupt finish while the album version simply fades out. I much prefer the way the single ends.

I didn't know about that one!
You've reminded me of another Kate Bush example, though : "The Man with the Child in his Eyes". The start of the single version is different to the LP version with the addition of Kate intoning "He's here..." a few times at very beginning. I think the rest of the single version matches the one on the "The Kick Inside" LP.

25 seconds longer - it has a spoken section about 3 minutes in that isn't on the album

Paint It Black was apparently included on the American release of Aftermath and it's 3 minutes 20 seconds as opposed to the single which is 3 minutes 46 seconds.

My copies of Aftermath have it as: 3:22 on the stereo and 3:24 on the mono
It is 3:44 on the London Singles collection.
