I love Peter Hammill, but even I have to agree he can hardly be number one.

He's the reason some people don't enjoy Van Der Graaf - 'I like the idea of the band, but that voice puts me right off'.

As opposed to what a number one slot singer might occasion: 'I don't really care for the music or the concept of the band, but you have to admit they have an undeniably excellent and enticing singer'.

Gabriel, Lake and Ian Anderson are all pretty good, and I love Gilmour's voice even if he's not that great at using it.

try to find some live stuff - while I love their albums too -their live show can be more interesting because they tend to build up the show slowly and then end it with an epic closer. I get the people who don't like his vocals but that really should be a problem with us prog guys and his vocals really fit the landscape music they play.
