What do we think of Peter Sarstedt
Well? I'm playing my first CD by Peter Sarstedt, a nice Pickwick 21 tracker that sounds fantastic, and I love it all, there's not a duffer among them. Why wasn't that guy bigger? Great voice, great playing, great songs - he should have been HUGE. I really know him by name only. Sounds like some kind of late 60's singer songwriter. He's better than Gilbert O'Sullivan, Leo Sayer, and people of that ilk. I think I may have heard one or two of his songs on oldies radio in the past, but I couldn't name any.

Where do you go to my lovely is of course an all time classic, and he often wrote funny songs - there's one called News at ten, I think.
I saw him play on the bottom of the bill when I saw Gerry Marsden - see the GM RI P thread. He was the reason I went to the gig.
His brothers also had a big hit each.

Where do you go to is not just bad but hideously bad. One of those have to turn it off straight away tracks. Makes me want to throw things, especially that ha ha ha bit. Lyrically trite, musically dull.
A new low.

I have no idea what you are talking about here, "Ray Purchase"? But your emoticon would indicate it is probably not a good thing.

I never pay attention to lyrics other than when it is country or something out of the ordinary, so I took time to google and read them now. And you are right, those are not just bad lyrics, but extraordinarily bad. I've changed my mind about Peter Sarstedt, and will fire him on the spot. I don't think I have ever changed my mind so fast before. Although I have now made a complete ass of myself, I am still glad I started this thread. It has made me realize that for once, I have missed the mark completely. Still a nice melody, though, stripped of those lyrics. Sounds good in 3/4.

It's an hilarious gag Goog! A reference to the UK sitcom Toast Of London - both Steven Toast and his arch nemesis Ray Purchase sport 'taches like Sarstedt's...

See? Uncanny!

I like the line about sipping Napoleon brandy and not getting her lips wet.

One of the worst songs of all time. Batters on about "where do you go to" forever and a day and then suddenly " i know where you go to" well why not tell us that at the start then.
Not fit to touch the hem of Gilbert's turnups.

I think I’ve only ever heard ‘Where Do You Go To’ which is, of course, a stone cold classic. Love it.

I'm with Gilbert - I'd prefer a Bonaparte Shandy
