It’s a close call between the two. I also love Aladdin Sane and Diamond Dogs, but Bowie had already nailed it.

I always recall an American reviewer of a later Bowie album saying that buying this LP as an early adolescent was a traumatic life-altering experience. For the poor addled budding macho rock fan, here was this fey attractive effete English guy, singing about Garbot and looking like her on the cover, plus the very title seemed like some sort of endearment gay lovers might coo to each other at the end of a particularly exhausting bout of lovemaking.

God that still makes me laugh.

well, as you know, low was my other pick for this listen. the great bowie albums are just off the scale in whatever zone they're in.
